In The Field: Oak Haven Birding Walk
An easygoing 1 to 2 mile walk through Oak Haven Preserve in Penn Valley, looking and listening for year-round residents and birds passing through on migration, across open meadows, ponds and creeks. Led by Rudy Darling, a birder since 1963 and past president of Sierra Foothills Audubon. Beginners welcome; bring binoculars, water and snacks, and wear sturdy footwear. Parking at the preserve is limited, so participants meet at the Penn Valley Park and Ride Lot EAST on Rough and Ready Highway to carpool. Registration required and space is limited; the preserve is otherwise closed to the public.
